NGO

Barrio Nuevo

Description

We are motivated by love for people. We conceive and support community-based initiatives with the aim of building a movement of Latino people committed to organizing around the needs of working people for long-term change.
Political action

A freedom fighter against slavery said ‘power concedes nothing without struggle’. Our problems are created by political structures and through political decisions. Our response must also be political. We organize campaigns based on the issues in our community; such as the abuse and racism experienced by many Latino youth at the hands of the police.
Community Programs

Our people, and youth in particular, need programs and services such as recreational options that are accessible. We have organized the ‘Corintianos’ as a non-profit soccer program to offer this to youth and families.
People’s Solidarity

Latin American people are organizing for peace and justice back home. We support those struggles through FRENTE NORMAN BETHUNE to build solidarity and provide training and organizing.
Arts and Culture

From murals to concerts, we bring together our talented people to contribute to the education and celebration of and about our history.
Community Media

Communication with our people is essential to advance debate and achieve solutions to our issues. We run a radio show every week Saturday at 4PM on Radio Voces Latinas, organize forums, and use print and electronic media to talk about these topics.
