Roundtable
As disciplines, Economics and Human Rights have yet to fully develop a partnership in the fight for social justice. A concerted effort to foster interdisciplinary dialogue is needed in order to conceptualize global issues differently and create innovative solutions accordingly. With regards to global migration, this roundtable will discuss the political and economic underpinnings of current migration patterns. From analysing the social political categories of migrants to examining human commodification and the geopolitical consequences of smuggling, as well as the policies faced by migrants once their journey has ended, we aim to harness a critical understanding of global migration as it stands today. In order to generate useful debate, we will furthermore consider alternative ways in which we can economically and thus politically empower the most vulnerable people in the world.
