Sri Lanka, Foreign Employment Bureau says that Sri Lankan migrant workers in South Korea will be transferred to safer places in case of a war situation in the region.

Foreign Employment Minister Dilan Perera has given instructions to the Bureau and the Sri Lankan Embassy in Seoul to take immediate measures to assure the safety of the country`s over 26,000 migrant workers.

Accordingly a rescue mission has already been planned and relevant parties are vigilant on any circumstances erupted in case of an attack on South.

`We have already held talks with the International Organizations for Migration (IOM) and taken steps to evacuate all Sri Lankans if they are in any danger. But at the moment there is nothing to worry about,` the Minister said. The Foreign Employment Bureau further says that the South Korean government will pay special attention for the safety of migrant workers in case of an emergency.

South Korea has raised its alert level to `vital threat` following North Korea`s movement of intermediate-range missiles to its east coast and the call on all foreign organizations, companies and tourists in South Korea to prepare for an evacuation in case of war.

However, the South sees the North`s call to prepare for evacuation as psychological warfare.

No country has yet attempted to withdraw their diplomatic missions from South Korea, the Bureau pointed out.
