AWA staff participate in the Migrant Justice Gathering at the University of Waterloo

Stan Raper, the National Coordinator of the Agriculture Workers Alliance (AWA) centres – along with Andrea Galvez of the AWA Quebec, and Pablo Godoy and Sima Zerehi from the UFCW Canada National Office – took part in the Migrant Justice Gathering at the University of Waterloo, located in south western Ontario. The forum ran from June 20 to 21 and was hosted by KAIROS, an ecumenical group of churches.

Brother Raper spoke to the audience about the difficulties migrant farm workers experiences and about the need to cooperate with NGOs, church groups and other community agencies to better advocate on behalf agriculture workers.

The event was well attended by a number of community groups, church organizations, labour unions and academics.

AWA Bradford celebrates their season opener with workers, church groups and other community members
On June 21, the AWA Bradford centre celebrated its season opener with some very special guests: the migrant farm workers. Other community members and church groups were also in attendance.

The event marked the fifth anniversary of the centre’s opening. Workers had the opportunity to socialize and share their experiences with many community members still trying to understand their plight.

The event was well attended and many participants did not leave empty handed after the staff held raffle draws and distributed gifts to workers.
