As you are probably aware, the Federal government is reviewing Section 38(1)(c) which allows the denial of permanent residence to people living with disabilities for causing excessive demand on the health care system.
The hearings will take place on Nov 21, 23rd and 28th by the Standing Committee on Citizenship and Immigration (CIMM)
Disability rights activists and members of Caregivers Action Centre and MWAC are organizing a mini-campaign to ensure that Section 38(1)(c) is eliminated and not just replaced with minor tweaks.
Here are some steps you can take:
(1) Speaking to the committee.
If you haven’t applied yet, please email the clerk at firstname.lastname@example.org with a short bio and request to speak.
Applying is not enough, we would like to share with the MPs the list of people who should speak from our end. If you haven't yet, please let me know if you have applied to speak or if you have been accepted. Particularly if you are a legal/academic expert who has been accepted, please let us know and we can see if a directly affected person can join and speak with you.
(2) Open Letter - Please Sign!
A number of disability rights activists have penned an open letter. You can sign on as an individual or as an organization here: http://migrantrights.ca/en/nodiscrimination/.
Please also send it over your email lists and to your colleagues. We need as many signatures as possible by November 21st.
(3) Share on social media:

(4) Written Submissions
Written submissions are due by November 15th. Please share yours with us, and we will post them on to our website. If you need assistance in drafting one, please get in touch and we can assist.
You can use the Open Letter to also write a simple one pager to send to CIMM. Just email email@example.com.
Please write letters to the editor, op-eds, and speak to the media on this issue. We need to have the message of eliminating Section 38(1)(c) echoed from all corners.
